Angel Wing Chapter Seven

Title: Angel Wing
Pairing(s): Linkara/Spoony
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 10,414
Warning(s): Violence, strong language, overt Christian themes and theology
Summary: When an angel loses his wing and falls to Earth, he learns more than he ever expected and finds more than he ever dreamed of.
“Spoony.”

Spoony opened his eyes. He was still in Linkara’s living room, lying on the floor with the young man safely in his arms. He could still feel a faint heartbeat. It wasn’t too late…

Saint Peter was standing over them, his face unreadable. “You have bound yourself to a human.”

“Yes,” Spoony said. He wasn’t going to be cowed by Saint Peter anymore.

“You have chosen to share his life.”

“Yes.”

“And his death, no matter how soon.”

“Even if it’s right now.”

“And you are willing to accept his ultimate fate.”

“As long as I can stay by his side, I will accept anything.”

Saint Peter nodded. “I just wanted to be sure you understood.”

Spoony looked at him. “I just failed an important trial, didn’t I?”

“Failed?” Saint Peter repeated. “You couldn’t possibly fail that trial. You have love to share and you’ve chosen to give it. I’d say you passed with flying colors.”

Spoony smiled slightly. “Well, then, we’ll be seeing you at the gate in a moment.”

“No,” Saint Peter said. Spoony looked up at him, incredulous. “He is not going to die.”

“But…”

“Close your eyes and count to three.”

Spoony did so, wondering what could possibly happen to them now…

“Open them.”

He did.

Linkara’s wounds were gone. There was no longer blood on the carpet. His breathing was normal and his heart was beating strongly. But that wasn’t the only change. Spoony had not sat up, had not moved his wing… but it was gone. His wings were both gone for good.

He swallowed, but smiled.

With a slight sigh and smile, Linkara’s eyes opened and met his. “Spoony?” he said.

“Yes…” Spoony pulled him close and kissed him. “Yes, I’m here… and I’ll never leave your side… I don’t think I could if I wanted to…”

“But…the demon…”

“It’s gone. I defeated it…and we’re alive, we’re both alive.”

“Alive?” Linkara looked at him. “Your wing…”

“I bound myself to you,” Spoony said. “Which means I’ll live a mortal life…a normal life. No wings, no tasks…just me.”

Linkara sat up and that was when he saw Saint Peter. “Oh…” he gasped. “Um…”

“Hello, Linkara,” Saint Peter said gently. “I hope you don’t mind that I have invaded your home, but I want to be sure of something.”

“Of course not,” Linkara said weakly.

“Do you understand what has taken place?”

“Sort of…”

Saint Peter nodded and explained, “He is bound to you. His heart beats with yours. He will share eternity with you, as one flesh and soul, united in the eyes of God. Is this agreeable to you?”

“Yes,” Linkara said. “Yes, it is…I…I love him.”

Saint Peter smiled. “Then you are bound, now and forever. Married in the sight of the Lord. And I hope you will be very happy together.” With that, Saint Peter vanished.
Tears poured down Spoony’s face, but he was smiling, smiling because he could share life and death with Linkara, with this beautiful, kind, faithful man. Linkara stared at him for a moment before reaching up and stroking his cheek. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered. “And I’m so happy…I’ll have you.”

Spoony smiled and kissed him again, pulling Linkara as close as possible. “I’m happy, too,” he whispered.

“Even though you can’t go back to Heaven?”

“I can’t go back now. We’ll both make it there, someday. And when we do, they’ll welcome us with trumpets and robes and wings…and you’ll see everything.”

“I already have everything.” Linkara pressed up and kissed Spoony. “I have my work, and my faith, and my angel…what more could I possibly want?”

“I don’t know,” Spoony admitted. “But if you want anything…anything at all…just ask.”

“Hmm…” Linkara smiled. “I can think of something…if you’re not opposed…” He leaned in and whispered softly in Spoony’s ear.

Spoony grinned and kissed Linkara again, warmly, passionately, kissing him in the way he would for the rest of time.

Heaven could wait a little longer.

Well, this was just awesome. I love the idea of one-winged angel Spoony falling to Earth and Linkara being so kind to him. This could’ve easily been way more angsty and gritty, or needlessly cracky and full of ”angel!Spoony doesn’t know how the world works” moments, but it wasn’t, so thanks for that – a simple love story, with angels and demons, yes, good. I loved the concepts of Heaven, Purgatory and the angelic ranks we see here, and especially how the wings work. All in all, a lovely and surprisingly fluffy read, and I had fun drawing for this! :D

Thank you! I didn't want to make this concept too dark or too light, especially considering last year's output, so I'm glad I succeeded! And thanks for the art!

This. was. AWESOME! :D

I love the idea that the angels are keeping an eye on the world and don't freak out about how much has changed since they were alive. Linkara was awesome and sweet and just so HIM. Spoony was suitably angelic and yet still very much our Spoony. The romance was sweet. And demon!Insano was scary. Just... AWESOME :D

Thank you very much!

Not gonna lie, the one reason I chose to mix for this fic at first was so I could use ALL OF THE LATIN CHORAL SACRED MUSIC.

Then I read the fic. And I adored it. It's such a sweet, gentle story (demon-Sano aside) - full of love and wonder and...just...it was wonderful to mix for.

Very well done, Slinky.

Hey, Latin Choral Sacred music is good. And since we don't tend to write a lot of religious stories, there aren't too many opportunities to use it.

Thanks. I'm very glad you enjoyed the story and liked mixing for it.

Thank you, Truly.

I am so glad that icon pic you have for this sparked this idea :P

Seriously, I loved this. It was a great idea, and very well-written. You handled the subject matter nicely, and it wasn't preachy or anything like that at all. All three of the characters were so good and so them.

I had a few ideas of what scene to draw for, though I quickly zeroed in one the one I did do :P

It was a wonderful art-worthy fic. Even though I may never do wings again :P

[identity profile] butterflyslinky.livejournal.com 2014-04-26 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, it was too pretty not to. :P

I'm glad it didn't come off as preachy. Always hard to hit the balance in religious fics.

And of course you picked the saddest scene in the fic. :P

No one wants to do wings anymore.

Thank you!

Hurray, Linkara lived! And now Spoony can live with him! I'm so glad they can be together on Earth before returning to Heaven, though I am a bit sad that Spoony lost his beautiful wings. But I know they will return one day, so I'm mostly happy with how this sweet love story ended!

I agree that you did a wonderful job on this! I loved your idea of Heaven and angels and demons and I'm glad as well that this story wasn't preachy, just sweet and lovely, aside from Insano of course. :)

[identity profile] butterflyslinky.livejournal.com 2014-04-26 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well, of course they lived! Haven't you seen "The Player?"

(I'm just kidding. There is actually an alternate ending that I may release sometime.)

Thank you so much for writing in! I'm glad you liked it.

Thank goodness, a happy ending! I don't have to throw a tantrum after all. ;)

This was a very sweet closing. I'm sad to see Spoony lose his wings. I hope he will get them back after he dies and returns to Heaven, because he's certainly re-earned them by defeating Insano! Then again, if he has angel duties, he'd have less time to spend with Linkara in paradise... Perhaps Linkara can earn his own wings and they can be a super-cute angel duo. ^o^

I'm really "into" both angels and wings, so this story was most definitely "relevant to my interests." ~.^ The mythos for Heaven and Hell that you created was detailed and fascinating, and Spoony's character arc was lovely to follow. Really, there's not much I can say that I haven't already said.

I'm glad that I'd already made the decision that I needed a "fic rec" post on my own LiveJournal, because this is most definitely going on there! Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us, and congrats on completing the Big Bang!! ^^

Thank you very much for all of your kind words. I'm very happy you liked the story so much.

I did like your interpretation on the Afterlife (in this case Christian) and the angels and demon mythos. The problem you encounter in religious themed books is that it becomes preachy and over-bearing, luckly here you didn't do anything like that :)

The voyage of Spoony's descent into Earth, him bounding with Linkara and having character development was a joy to read. I also enjoyed the battle scenes between Insano and Spoony.

Suprised by the happy ending (meaning that you are not fully corrupted by the evil robot known as [livejournal.com profile] lady_sci_fi ;) ).

I'm glad you liked the story and that it wasn't too preachy.

Hey, she can't corrupt me entirely!

This was a really sweet story. I particularly like how the part of the story about Spoony and Linkara growing closer happens mostly in Linkara's apartment, it gave the story a very intimate feeling.

I usually avoid religion on fanfictions, not because it bothers me, but because I've seen it coming off as overly preachy or forced, I think you handled it pretty well.

Nicely done. Good job =D

*squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*

That might be the fluffiest thing I've read in a good long time.

*cuddles fic*
